Elderly man killed in lightning strike on the outskirts of Odisha capital

Bhubaneswar: A 64-year-old man reportedly died due to lightning strike on the outskirts of Odisha capital here today.

The deceased has been identified as Batakrushna Behera of Narada village in Balipatna area, sources said.

Lightning struck Behera while he was grazing his buffaloes on an open field near the village in the afternoon.

Behera was immediately rushed to Balipatna Community Health Centre (CHC) in a critical condition. He was later shifted to Capital Hospital after his condition deteriorated. However, he was declared dead on arrival by the doctors, sources added.

“Heavy rain lashed Balipatna area in the afternoon. Lightning struck Behera while he was grazing his buffaloes outside the village. However, his grandson who was also present at the spot managed to escape without any injury,” said a villager.
