Bhapur: With third phase Lok Sabha and Assembly polls underway in Odisha today, an elderly woman reportedly died due to heat stroke while waiting to cast her vote in Bhapur block of Odisha's Nayagarh district today.

The deceased was identified as Kumudini Dalei of Patharpunji village under Baghuapalli panchayat here. Though the exact reason behind her death has not been established yet, it is suspected that she died due to heat stroke.

As per reports, Kumudini was waiting in the queue at the polling booth when she experienced discomfort and uneasiness due to the excess heat. She started sweating and then collapsed. She was immediately rushed to Khandapada hospital but doctors declared her dead.

Further investigation is underway. The exact cause of death will be ascertained after the postmortem report arrives.
