Elderly woman trampled to death by elephant in Odisha’s Balangir

Balangir: In a tragic incident, an elderly woman was reportedly trampled to death by an elephant at Baghajharan village under Khaprakhol Block in Balangir district yesterday night.

The deceased woman has been identified as Basanti Angaria.

According to reports, an elephant attacked the old woman when she had come outside at around 9.15 pm on Saturday to attend nature’s call. She succumbed a few minutes later the incident.

Sources said two giant tuskers from Komna area adjoining Nuapada district were spotted roaming at many places including Lathor village under Khaprakhol Block in broad daylight yesterday. They were found on the main road after entering Lathore village and crossing a railway level crossing. On receiving information from villagers, the forest officials tried to ward off two elephants and disconnected the power supply for their safety.

However, the elderly woman at Baghajharan village became the victim of elephant’s fury at night.
