Sonepur: An elderly woman, who had fallen into a 20-ft deep abandoned borewell near Kainphula village in Sonepur district of Odisha, died minutes after her rescue.

The 80-year-old woman was declared dead at the Sonepur District Headquarters Hospital, informed Sonepur SP.

Following 5 hour-long efforts, the fire personnel team rescued the woman from the borewell.

A fire services official said that her pulse rate was low at the time of rescue. She was shifted to the district headquarters hospital for immediate treatment.

Dukhi Negi fell into the borewell on Monday evening. On being informed about the mishap, Fire Services personnel rushed to the spot and initiated a rescue operation.

Oxygen was supplied to the woman through the opening of the borewell. The district administration had provided an excavator, using which the Fire Services personnel dug the ground parallel to the borewell from a distance of around 10-feet to rescue the woman.

It is reported that the woman was surviving with a venomous snake in the borewell.
