Bhubaneswar, Jan 1:

bmc poll campaign

The campaign for the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls has entered the business end with all three major parties –  the ruling BJD and opposition Congress and BJP – making all out efforts to woo the voters.

While senior leaders of all the three parties have plunged headlong into the election campaign after the final declaration of candidates, the heads of the two opposition parties have also entered into the electioneering process to ensure the victory of their respective party candidates.

While PCC president Jaydev Jena and Union minister of state for chemicals and fertilisers Srikant Jena are leading the Congress campaign, BJP president KV Singhdeo today launched his campaign process taking the blessings of Lord Shiva at Lingaraj temple. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will campaign in all 67 wards for two days on January 3 and 4.

Party leaders are leaving no stone unturned to ensure victory of their party candidates as it has become a matter of prestige for all the three political parties. While the ruling party wants to retain the corporation and continue its triumphant journey after sweeping the ULB polls in Western Odisha and other places, the opposition BJP and Congress are attempting to wrest victory in order to save the blushed after the humiliating defeat in the two earlier rounds of ULB polls.

“The party will emerge triumphant in the BMC polls as the people are dissatisfied with the incumbent government for all its misdeeds, which will be raised during the campaign,” said KV Singhdeo.

Since contesting of rebel leaders has posed a challenge to the ruling party, senior BJD leaders including Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kalpataru Das, Rural Development Minister Bikram Arukh, Women and Child Development Minister Usha Devi, former ministers Padmanabha Behera, Pramila Mallik, Ranendra Pratap Swain and several party MLAs are campaigning extensively to keep a check on the rebels as well as opposition candidates.

According to sources, Naveen Patnaik has directed those in charge of campaign to approach each and every voter in a ward and seek their cooperation.
