Elections 2019: Odisha Congress to follow ‘one ticket, one family’ policy

Bhubaneswar: A day after the Pradesh Election Committee (PEC) of Odisha Congress sent a list of candidates to the party’s Central Election Committee (CEC) for the ensuing Lok Sabha and State Assembly elections, Congress Odisha In-charge Jitendra Singh today clarified that ‘one ticket, one family’ policy will be strictly followed during allotment of tickets.

Speaking to mediapersons here, Singh said, “Many leaders seek tickets for more than one member of their families. This time, the party has decided that only one ticket will be given to one family. However, sitting leaders can give their own tickets to their heirs.”

The AICC president further said that the party has decided to give priority to youth, women and fresh candidates with more chances of winning the polls.

“Youths of Odisha are more inclined towards politics. Hence, Congress has decided to have over 50 per cent representation of youth,” Singh said.

Yesterday, the PEC finalised the candidate list for 147 Assembly and 21 Lok Sabha seats of the State and sent it to party’s CEC for approval. The final list will be published after scrutiny and approval by the high command.
