Elephant death in Karlapat sanctuary: Role of forest department raises many eyebrows

Bhawanipatna: The carcass of a tusker was found on March 4 in Karlapat sanctuary under South Division of Kalahandi district. After the carcass spread foul smell in nearby areas, some forest personnel came to know about it and hurriedly buried it, which has raised the eyebrows of many animal lovers.

When contacted today, the DFO concerned confirmed our reporter about the jumbo death.

Forest department personnel spotted the pachyderm near Semijharan of Kukurapa Ghati and about 100 metres away from Jakam village. Reason behind its death has not been ascertained yet.

“The elephant carcass was buried in a suspicious manner at night,” some local villagers alleged.
