Elephant menace: Woman trampled to death in Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal: A 40-year-old woman was crushed to death by a wild elephant at Kaunriapal village under Odapada block in Dhenkanal district in wee hours today.

The deceased has been identified as Urmila, wife of one Dheeren Nayak.

Reportedly, Urmila had gone to a nearby field to attend nature’s call, when the pachyderm came out of nowhere and attacked her. She died on the spot. On receiving information, a team of police and forest personnel led by the DFO reached and sent the body to district headquarters hospital (DHH) for post-mortem.

While Rs 40,000 compensation has already been provided to the family members of the deceased, rest 3.6 lakh will be given after necessary paper work, said an forest official.
