Elephant tramples elderly man to death in Odisha’s Dhenkanal

Dhenkanal: An elderly man was trampled to death by an elephant while he was working at vegetable garden here this chilly morning.

The deceased was identified as Bauri Sahoo (63), a farmer.

The incident took place at Palasahi village under Parjang police limits of Dhenkanal district.

Following the incident, the forest officials reached the site and tried to ward off the jumbo from there.

According to reports, the farmer along with his wife Nandita Sahoo had gone to the vegetable garden for irrigation where a tusker was already present near the place since last night. However, they were unaware of the presence of the wild elephant due to fog. While Bauri was engaged in irrigation work at one point of the garden, his wife was doing work at another point. During the period, the jumbo lifted the farmer with its trunk and trampled him to death in front of his wife.
