Elephant tramples two brothers to death in front of parents in Odisha’s Jharsuguda

Jharsuguda: In a tragic incident, an elephant reportedly trampled two minor brothers to death in front of their parents near Bhaunra village under Kirmira block of Odisha’s Jharsuguda district, today.

The couple sustained critical injuries while trying to save the children and was admitted to the Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital for treatment.

According to reports, Umesh Ram Satnami and his wife Leherabai Satnami of Sakti district in Chhattisgarh had come to the village with their two sons Dhananjay (9) and Abhay (11) to work at a brick kiln in the locality.

While the family was sleeping near the workplace, an elephant attacked the two brothers. The couple tried to save the minor boys, but in vain. The pachyderm crushed the two brothers to death on the spot.

A pall of gloom descended on the area after the incident.

Notably, a herd of seven elephants has been creating havoc in the region. Locals alleged that the Forest department was not taking adequate steps to ward off the animals.
