Emar Mutt eviction: Seer continues to refuse vacating structure

Puri: Its tough time for district administration in Puri to convince the meditating seer of Emar Mutt during ongoing demolition drive around Srimandir as he again refused to vacate the building.

Even as the eviction drive is underway around the age-old Emar mutt, the silent protest by Mahant Rajgopal Ramanuj Dash disrupted the process inside the religious establishment.

On third day of eviction drive of over 900-year-old Emar Mutt on Saturday, the monk remained stick to his decision by not calling off his silent protest and vacate the area despite efforts by district authorities.

While the structure is being bulldozed, the mutt head is still sitting silent inside building.

Sources said that Mahant Rajgopal Ramanuj was unwell and the power supply into the mutt has been snapped by the district administration.

The container house has been kept ready for him outside the mutt for shelter. However, he reportedly made it clear that he will never leave the place under any circumstances.

Meanwhile, Around 30 platoons of police have been deployed on the spot. As many as 20 shops adjacent to Srimandir will be razed to ground today. The power supply has been disconnected by CESU at the area in view of demolition drive. The Road from Kakudikhai Chhak to Dolamandap Sahi has been sealed.
