Bhubaneswar: The BJP, in a major announcement post winning the recently concluded General and Assembly elections in Odisha, said the previous Government's flagship Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana will be taken over by Ayushman Bharat scheme.
Addressing mediapersons, the Odisha BJP chief Manmohan Samal said BSKY will no longer be implemented and will be replaced by Ayushman Bharat Yojana which is the Government of India's national public health insurance scheme providing free access to health insurance coverage for low income earners in the country.
He said BSKY, which covered approximately 70 lakh families, did not offer many benefits and under Ayushman Bharat, people will have access to optimum health services.
Commenting on the polls, he said the elections were in essence fought by the people and its outcome will be for them too. "The BJP will fulfill all promises made before the elections. I will take whatever responsibility bestowed on me and will discharge my duties. All decisions will be taken as per the Parliamentary Committee. While there may be slight delay in selection of leaders on June 6, June 10 will see a son of Odisha take oath as the Chief Minister. I accept blessings of Chandbali public," he said.
In Chandbali Assembly constituency, Samal lost to BJD's Byomakesh Ray. Byomakesh Ray polled 83,063 votes compared to Manmohan Samal's 64,173.
