Odisha youth electrocuted while taking selfie atop train

Taking selfie proved near suicidal for an engineering student in the Odisha capital today as he sustained critical injuries after coming in contact with overhead electric traction while taking a selfie atop a goods train.

According to reports, the incident occurred near Bhotapada, on the city outskirts. The injured has been identified as Subhendu Nayak, a student of Central Institute of Plastic Engineering &Technology, Bhubaneswar.

Subhendu came in contact with live high-voltage electric traction of the Railways while he was taking selfie atop at goods train.

Subhendu, who has sustained severe burn injuries on his chest, hands and other parts of the body was initially taken to the Capital Hospital here and was later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack.

Police and Government Railway Police (GRP) are investigating the matter.

“They were taking selfie. They were three. While one had climbed up he came in contact with live overhead electric traction. On receiving electric shock he had fallen on the ground. His father had brought him to the Railway Police Station from where he was sent to Capital Hospital and from there he has been shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital at Cuttack,” said Fakir Mohan Saraf, Sub Inspector, Mancheswar GRP.
