Engineer suspended for violating protocol to touch President Droupadi Murmu’s feet

Jaipur: Attempting to touch President Droupadi Murmu’s feet proved costly for an engineer in Rajasthan as he was placed under suspension for security protocol breach.

The Public Health Engineering Department of Rajasthan Government took the stringent action on Friday following intervention of the Ministry of Home.

Amba Siyol, a Junior Engineer of the PHED, had attempted to touch the feet of President Droupadi Murmu during inaugural programme of the Scout Guide Jamboree in Rohet on January 4.

Reports said that the act was the violation of security protocol of the President. The woman engineer was suspended with immediate effect under Rajasthan Civil Service Rule.

According to reports, Siyol was in the charge of water arrangements during the programme. She managed to reach the frontline of officials who were to welcome President Murmu. She breached the protocol by trying to touch the President’s feet. However, she was stopped by the security personnel and was handed over to local police. Later, she was released following a formal inquiry.

Taking serious note of the incident, the Union Home Ministry sought a report from the Rajasthan Police on serious lapse in President’s security.
