Engineering books to be available in Odia language

Bhubaneswar: Books of engineering courses will be available in Odia language as an MoU in this regard has been signed between All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and Institute of Odia Studies and Research (IOSR).

The MoU was inked in the presence of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

“In order to facilitate the preparation and introduction of technical books in Odia at Degree and Diploma Level from the academic session of 2022, AICTE and Institute of Odia Studies and Research (IOSR) executed Memorandum of Understanding on 18 Oct 2021 in the presence of Union Minister of Education, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan at IIT Kharagpur Extension, Bhubaneswar,” the AICTE said in a statement.

Pradhan thanked the AICTE and IOSR for the initiative. Developing study materials for engineering education in Odia language is a major step towards ensuring education in mother tongue, which is a recommendation of the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020, he said.

Students from rural background have immense potential and books in regional language will help them to gain technical knowledge. It is a misconception that studying in mother tongue is a disadvantage. Many highly developed countries have been promoting education in local language, the minister said.

Engineering education in local language will lead to innovation and large scale employability, he added and informed that the project is being taken up in philanthropic mode.
