Enhanced rainfall activity in Odisha during next few days due to low pressure over North BoB: IMD

Bhubaneswar: With monsoon trough at mean sea level now passing through centre of well-marked low pressure area, it is likely to become more marked during next 24 hours and cause enhanced rainfall activities in Odisha for next few days, India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional centre here said.

The Low Pressure is expected to form over North Bay of Bengal (BoB) around August 13, 2022.

In its mid-day bulletin today, the IMD regional centre stated, “Southwest monsoon has been active over Odisha. Widespread light to moderate rain/thundershower have occurred over several districts of the State with heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Jajpur, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Keonjhar and Rayagada.”

Under the influence of strong monsoon flow and anticipated low pressure area, squally weather with gusty surface wind speed reaching 45 to 55 km/ph is very likely over Northwest adjoining West Central Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast during August 11 to August 12 and squally surface wind speed reaching 45 to 55 km/ph gusting 65 km/ph is very likely along and off Odisha coast and North adjoining West-Central Bay of Bengal during August 13 to August 15, 2022, the mid-day bulletin read.

Fishermen are advised not to venture into deep sea area of Northwest adjoining West Central Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast during August 11 to August 12 and not to venture into sea along and off Odisha coast, North adjoining West-Central Bay of Bengal during August 13 to August 15, 2022.

Yellow Warning (Be updated)

Heavy rainfall (7 Cm to 11 Cm) is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.

Friday (Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 12.08.22 to 0830 Hrs IST of 13.08.22)

Yellow Warning (Be updated)

Heavy rainfall (7 Cm to 11 Cm) is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Angul, Cuttack, Khordha, Dhenkanal, Sambalpur and Bargarh.

Saturday (Valid from 0830 Hrs IST of 13.08.22 to 0830 Hrs IST of 14.08.22)

Orange Warning (Be prepared)

Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 Cm to 20 Cm) is very likely to occur at isolated places over the districts of Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Kendrapada, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Gajapati, Jajpur, Dhenkanal and Kalahandi.
