Enrollment of students in schools under RTE Act begins soon; check important dates

Bhubaneswar: The state government has finalised the calendar for enrollment of students from weaker sections in private schools under the Right To Education (RTE) Act for 2023-24 academic year.

As per the calendar, the registration of schools and necessary correction of data will be undertaken from January 20 to February 5. The District Education Officers (DEOs) and Block Education Officers (BEOs) are scheduled to inspect the schools registered with the School and Mass Education (S&ME) department by February 10.

The first phase registration of students under the scheme will be carried out in between February 13 and March 16. The BEOs will verify the applications of the students for enrollment in private schools by March 20.

The first phase online lottery for admission into various schools will be done on March 23 and 24. The admission will be completed in between March 27 and April 24.

According to the calendar, the second phase registration will be carried out from April 10 to 24. The applications will be scrutinized by April 26 and the second phase online lottery for admission is scheduled for April 28.

The second phase admission will be completed in between April 29 and May 6, said an official of the S&ME department.

The RTE Act makes it mandatory for private schools to reserve 25 per cent seats for the students from the weaker sections.
