Tension gripped Polasara police station in Odisha's Ganjam district as irate locals set a police jeep on fire this morning after some eve teasers, who had passed comments to a girl, allegedly killed her mother.

According to reports, one Manoj Nahak of Bhabarada and his associates had passed objectionable comments to a girl of the village. The parents of the girl had lodged a complaint with Polasara police in this regard.

Nahak and his friends attacked the girl's father and mother yesterday when the duo was working at a crop field. Though the father of the girl managed to escape from the spot, the miscreants allegedly thrashed the girl's mother with an iron rod which led to her death.

The woman, who was rescued in a critical condition, was admitted to hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.

Following the incident, irate locals staged road blockade this morning by keeping the body on the road and demanded immediate arrest of the accused. They gheraoed and ransacked the Polasara police station. This apart, they torched a police jeep.

The road blockade was withdrawn after DGP KB Singh suspended the Polasara police station Sub-inspector.

Seven platoons of police force have been deployed at the spot to avoid any untoward incident.
