Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance unearthed more benami properties in possession of former Nabarangpur Additional Sub-Collector Prasanta Rout, who has been booked in a DA case following detection of disproportionate assets worth over Rs 5 crore.

During interrogation, the Vigilance sleuths detected 3 more plots including one at Bhadrak measuring an area of Ac. 1.15 decimal in the name of the tainted official's spouse and 2 benami plots -- one at Malipada in Bhubaneswar measuring an area of Ac. 0.16 decimal and another at Bhadrak measuring an area of Ac. 0.47 decimal.

The accused confessed to have opened 6 benami accounts in the name of different persons and deposited Rs 1.12 crore.

This apart, one locker at UCO Bank, Bhadrak, has been traced.

Odisha Vigilance had taken Rout on a five-day remand on orders passed by Special Judge Vigilance, Sundargarh, on June 28 for interrogation in disproportionate assets (DA) case. Today, he was produced before court after end of 5-day remand.

On June 24, Prasanta Rout was arrested by Odisha Vigilance and forwarded to the Court of Special Judge, Sundargarh, for possession of DA worth Rs.5,21,09,659, which constituted 506% of his known sources of income, following simultaneous raids in multiple locations.

The Vigilance sleuths had recovered cash amounting to Rs.3,02,30,800 (Rs 2.23 crore cash from Rout’s residence at Kanan Vihar in Bhubaneswar and Rs 77 lakh from his Nabarangpur residence) during raids on June 23.

In this connection, a vigilance case was registered against him and his spouse under sections 13(2) r/w 13(1)(b)/12 P.C. Amendment Act, 2018.

Following his arrest, the state government gave him compulsory retirement from his service.
