Ex-MLA’s sons work as daily wagers

In these days of politicians and their kin living life king size out of money earned through dubious means, it is hard to believe that sons of a former MLA eke out a living working as daily wage labourers. But that is precisely what six sons and other family members of former MLA Sambaru Majhi in Akori village under Kosagumuda block do.
Since their family farm holding is not enough to meet their ends, they have little option but to work as labourers. The former MLA’s sons – Bhaskar Majhi, Kshyamanidhi Majhi, Anirudh Majhi, Chandra Majhi, Nilakantha Majhi and Motiram Majhi – say they neither have a ration card nor an Indira Awas Yojana (IAY) house.
They move out of their home early in the morning to the neighbouring villages of Kotagaon and Kodinga in search of work as daily labourers to earn their bread.
Late Sambaru Majhi was elected to the state assembly from Kodinga for three consecutive terms in 1974, ’77 and ’80. He was a popular leader among the tribals and was responsible for the development of the region. It was due to his efforts that a pucca road connected Kosagumuda with Papadahandi and for the first time a government bus rolled from Jeypore to Kosagumuda.
