Cuttack: The Excise Department sleuths last night seized 100 kg of silver bars and cash amounting over Rs 10 lakh at the Tangi toll plaza here.
As per reports, two persons, Dilip Mandal and Atulya Pal of Kolkata, were heading from Ganjam’s Aska to Kharagpur, West Bengal in a white-coloured SUV car. The officials were frisking vehicles based on inputs on marijuana being smuggled on that route.
Rajat Praharaj, Deputy Commissioner, Excise Department said, “Our police guards were posted at the toll gate from last night. During their watch, they found this car speeding towards the toll gate and stopped it. On searching, they recovered the silver bars and cash from a secret chamber in the car.”
“We have informed the GST team. They will now take over and interrogate the two detainees ,” he added.
The GST officials will investigate whether the two persons were involved in transportation of the valuable metals from Odisha to West Bengal to evade GST .
