Nabarangpur: Vigilance sleuths have arrested an excise official on charges of amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income from Nabarangpur district of Odisha today. The accused official was identified as Gonga Paikray, deputy superintendent -cum- superintendent of excise in-charge in Nabarangpur. He was apprehended after allegations of corruption in his name came to the fore.
On Friday, a team led by 3 DSPs, 5 Inspectors, 6 ASIs and other staff of Odisha Vigilance carried out simultaneous searches in his properties including six places in Koraput and Nabarangpur districts on the strength of search warrants issued by the Special Judge (Vigilance), Jeypore.
The raided properties include:
1.4000 sq feet triple-storey residential building of the accused official, located near Fire Station, Jeypore.
2. 1800 sq feet triple storey residential building at New Street 1st Lane, Jeypore.
3. Land with foundation of building near Prakash Vidyalay in front of Glocal Hospital, Jeypore.
4. Asbestos parking shed at Hanaguda, Jeypore.
5. Office Chamber at Nabarangpur.
6. Residential rented house at Sadasiba Marg, Chanuria Guda, Nabarangpur.
Apart from two multi-storey buildings, the anti-corruption bureau officials detected five plots in the name of the accused in Jeypore town, two four-wheelers, Rs 1.09 lakh cash, advance amount Rs 16 Lakh paid to Annapurna Real Estate, Jeypore during 2013-14 to purchase land/house.
Official sources said the measurement and valuation/assessment of the above buildings/plots is being carried out by Vigilance Technical Wing. Bank, insurance, postal and other deposits are under verification.
