Expenses on MDM in Odisha hiked

The Odisha government has increased the budget in the ongoing mid-day meal (MDM) scheme in primary schools.

While the budget for daily ration per student in the primary schools has been increased from Rs 3.79 to Rs 4.04 for the current academic session, for the secondary schools, the budget has been raised from Rs 5.65 to Rs 6.03, a release by the Information and Public Relations department said.

Besides, the calorie intake for the primary school students has been increased from 487.5 calories to 493.6 calories of carbohydrates and 12 grams to 13.5 grams of proteins, as per revised standards.

It has been decided that the vegetarian students will be provided with mango, banana, apple or any other seasonal fruit on Wednesday and Saturday in the mid-day meals.

The revised scheme would benefit 51,89,057 students across 62,549 schools in the state, the release added.
