Expert committee formed for treatment of centenarian freedom fighter Nilamani Samal in Odisha’s Cuttack

Cuttack: Noted freedom fighter NiIamani Samal, who is around 101 years of age, has been admitted to SCB Hospital in Cuttack. The elderly man is suffering from old-age-related complications. Samal is in critical condition and undergoing treatment in the Intensive-care Unit (ICU) of the SCBMCH.

A treatment committee, comprising Medicine Professor Saroj Kumar Tripathy as chairman, Neurosurgery Professor Sanjiv Kumar Mishra, Neurology Associate Professor Dr. Kali Prasanna Swain and Cardiology Associate Professor Dr. Dipak Ranjan Das as its members, has been constituted for supervising the treatment of Samal, SCB Hospital Registrar (Administration) stated.

Committee members will meet jointly at Medicine ICU for evaluation, treatment and management of health status of the freedom fighter and report to the Medical Superintendent for further action.

Initially, the centenarian was admitted to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Jajpur, acting on a directive of Collector Chakravarti Singh Rathore. However, Samal was later shifted to SCBMCH after his health condition deteriorated.

It is pertinent to mention, Samal is the sitting president of the State freedom fighters forum. He hails from Balipadia village under Badachana block of Jajpur district.
