Explosives found inside general bogey of Konark Express in Odisha Capital, raises concern

Bhubaneswar: Some explosive materials were spotted inside the general bogey of Konark Express by a cleaning staffer of the Railway department in Bhubaneswar station, today at around 3 am.

On being informed about it, a team of Government Railway Police (GRP) immediately reached the spot and seized the materials. The explosives were kept in a special room here and precautionary measures have already been taken to avert any untoward incident and for security reasons as well.

“A staffer found the explosives while carrying out cleaning works in Konark Express early morning. A bomb squad will reach the spot tomorrow morning and defuse the seized materials. The bomb squad will conduct further probe in this regard,” a railway official of Bhubaneswar station said.

According to the source, during a preliminary investigation, it was known that the seized materials are highly inflammable and explosive in nature. Sniffer dogs were also engaged for the purpose.

“The train arrived in Bhubaneswar from Mumbai at around 11.30 pm yesterday and the explosives were noticed in the wee hours of Thursday. The seized explosives include eight Red Parachute Signal Rockets, 15 Rocket Parachute Flares and a Path Finder Sorter. A case has been registered in this regard by Railway Protection Force (RPF) police in Bhubaneswar station,” the railway official added.
