Facebook to train Odisha women entrepreneurs

Bhubaneswar: To keep up with the fast moving digital world and promote products on e-commerce platforms, Odisha government has roped in leading social media and networking site Facebook to impart digital marketing skills to women entrepreneurs in the state.

As per official sources, Facebook would train 25, 000 MSME and Self Help Group (SHG) entrepreneurs in digital marketing skills by August 2018.

MSME Secretary LN Gupta chaired a high-level meeting with representatives from Facebook here today.

“The prime objective of the programme is to skill and digitally train MSMEs, SHGs and artisans to promote their products or services through online platforms. Besides, it will enable them interact with SHGs and existing MSME entrepreneurs,” Gupta said.

The US-based company would organise workshops at major towns and cities in Odisha like Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Sambalpur, Berhampur, Balasore, Rayagada, Rourkela, Angul, Keonjhar Jeypore and Puri etc.

“The objective of the workshops is to digitally empower the women entrepreneurs so that they can reachout to global audience. The launch of #SheMeansBusiness is a step forward towards economic growth in the state,” said Rajat Arora, Policy Programs Manager, Facebook, India & South Asia.

The first such workshop will be held on the August 10 at Bhubaneswar where 800 women entrepreneurs are likely to participate in it.

Director, Mission Shakti, Sujata R Karthikeyan, Director of Industries, Niranjan Sahu and other senior officials were present in the meeting.
