Fake BP medicine seizure in Cuttack: PIL filed in Orissa High Court seeking CBI probe

Cuttack: A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was today filed in the Orissa High Court here seeking a CBI probe into the seizure of spurious Blood Pressure (BP) medicines in the city.

Filing the PIL, petitioner Abhishek Das also urged for investigation into the place of production of the fake medicines.

Odisha DGP, Odisha Health Department and 3 others have been made parties in the case.

Notably, huge quantity of fake BP medicines (Telma-40) were seized in Cuttack city earlier this month after a team of Directorate of Drugs Control raided Puja Enterprises and VR Drug Agencies, two drug wholesale points in Manik Ghosh Bazar here, and inspected the stock of the medicines which were allegedly manufactured and sold by a fake pharmaceutical company in the name of Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd.

Purighat police had on September 13 arrested Sanjay Jalal, owner of Puja Enterprises, and Rahul Syal, owner of VR Drug Agencies, over their alleged involvement in the offence.
