Fake certificate case: Crime Branch to take four accused on 3-day remand

Bhubaneswar/Bolangir: The SDJM court in Bolangir allowed Odisha Crime Branch today to take the four accused persons on a 3-day remand starting from Wednesday in a fake certificate case.

A source said that the key accused Manoj Mishra and his close aide Alok Ranjan Udgata will be taken on remand along with two candidates, who by utilising forged documents had applied for government jobs and were also arrested. The remand was sought in order to ascertain facts, elicit further information as well as ascertain the detailed modus operandi of crime, the source added.

However, Crime Branch had prayed for 5-day police remand of the Undertrial Prisoners (UTPs) Manoj and Alok including the candidates namely Tribihari Panda and Pares Budek.

Allegedly, Manoj and Alok duped Rajat Kumar Nayak of Rs 5 lakh by promising him a job.

The residential houses of Manoj and Alok were thoroughly searched for locating incriminating materials. During the investigation, the role of family members in assisting the accused in laundering money earned through fraudulent activities has been examined.

Close family members of both Manoj and Alok have been summoned for further probe.

Worth mentioning, the State investigation agency previously registered two separate CID-CB PS cases [No-05/2023 and 06/2023 corresponding to Bolangir Town PS cases No-141, dated-24.03.2023 under Sections 467/468/471 and 34 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 143, dated-26.03.2023 under the Sections 420/465/467/468/471 and 34 of the IPC] respectively in this connection and launched a probe.
