Fake currency racket busted in Odisha, five arrested

Deogarh/Kesinga: Police today busted a fake currency note printing racket in Odisha’s Deogarh and arrested five persons in this connection during a raid.

Police have seized two mobile phones, chemicals, computer, printer and paper used for printing of fake currency in addition to seizure of fake currency with a face value of Rs 2.74 lakh from the arrested during the raid.

The arrested have been identified as Jhasketan Dehury alias Panchu(25) of Subarnapali village under Deogarh police limits, Pratap Behera (22) of Nalabandha village under Barkote police limits, Sudan Biswal alias Kalia(26) and Sumant Bhoi of Tabda village under Riamal police limits and Rajkishore Sahoo(37) of Kanheinagar village under Bantala police limits.

“We have arrested Jhasketan Dehury alias Panchu(25) of Subarnapali village under Deogarh police limits, Pratap Behera (22) of Nalabandha village under Barkote police limits, Sudan Biswal alias Kalia(26) and Sumant Bhoi of Tabda village under Riamal police limits and Rajkishore Sahoo(37) of Kanheinagar village under Bantala police limits for their involvement in the fake currency racket. We have seized two mobile phones, chemicals and materials used for printing of fake currency notes from their possession,” informed Deogarh SDPO Suleiman Ekka addressing a press conference at Deogarh police station premises today.

In a separate incident, Kesinga police in Kalahandi district have detained a person for possessing fake currency having a face value of Rs 66,500.

The person identified as Gopinath Rao hailing from Titlagarh area was detained by the villagers of Palam village when they suspected the currency note of Rs 500 offered by him to a beetle shop owner of the village as against purchase of some goods to be fake.

Later, they handed him over to the police, who seized fake currency notes in denominations of Rs 500 and Rs 2000 from him.
