Inter state fake currency racket busted in Odisha, four held

In a major breakthrough, police today arrested four members of an inter-state fake currency racket in Odisha’s Rayagada district and seized fake currencies worth Rs 28,900 from their possession.

fake currencyThe arrested have been identified as Nalla Sampath of Venkatpuram village in Warrangal district of Telangana, Singarupu Bangaraya of Bodarpuwalsa village in Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh, TP Murali Raju of Pukali village in Koraput district and Kaka Deepak of Rudraram village in Bijapur district of Chhatisgarh.

Acting on a tip-off, police arrested Sampath and Bangaraya while they were trying to exchange the currency.

Police seized nine Rs 1000 and five Rs 500 fake denominations from Sampath and seven Rs 1000 and four Rs 500 fake denominations from Bangaraya, said Rayagada SP K Siva Subramani in a press meet later.

The arrested duo, during interrogation, informed the police that TP Murali Raju of Pukali village was manufacturing the fake currency with the help of others at his home and circulating them through Kaka.

Acting on the information, police later raided the house of Murali and seized one colour printer, color catridges, mobile phone, two Rs 1000, four Rs 500 and ten Rs 100 fake denominations from his possession while two Rs 1000, two Rs 500 and four Rs 100 fake denominations were seized from Kaka Deepak.

Several others of Odisha and the neighbouring states are involved in the racket, the SP said, adding that steps are being taken to nab them.

Suspecting that the racket is trying to circulate these fake currencies during trading of cattle, cotton, paddy etc, police have appealed the people to keep a close watch on transaction of fake currency note in their locality and inform the police if such incident comes to their notice.
