Fake currency racket: Fraudsters dupe youths of Rs 27 Lakh in Odisha’s Ganjam

Berhampur: Two youths have been duped by fraudsters under Baidyanathpur police limits in Ganjam district, a police source said today.

The accused were identified as Badrinath Panda and Akshaya Nayak from the district. The victim youths are Sachin Mohapatra and Surya Narayan Patra.

According to the source, the fraudsters had promised to pay Rs 10 lakh currency notes to the victim youths in exchange for legal tenders of Rs 9 lakh. However, after receiving around Rs 27 lakh from Sachin and Surya Narayan, the fraudster duo gave the two victims fake currencies of Rs 30 lakh.

Acting on an FIR lodged today by Sachin and Surya Narayan, Baidyanathpur police detained Badrinath, Akshaya, and three others in this connection and launched a probe.

“I suspect that the fake currency racket has links with other fraudsters from outside Odisha. A detailed investigation is underway,” a senior policeman expressed.
