Fake ghee manufacturing unit busted in Odisha capital

Bhubaneswar: The Twin City Commissionerate Police today busted a fake ghee manufacturing unit at Kaibalya Nagar in Sundarpada area of Odisha capital.

A joint team of the QAT and Airfield police raided the spot and seized huge amount of adulterated ghee.

The spurious ghee was prepared using palmolein oil, artificial colour, and seeds having scent of ghee. If consumed on regular basis, the adulterated ghee would cause increase in trans fat and subsequent heart-related ailments, an official said.

The manufacturing unit lacked trade license. The seized items will be sent to the State Forensic Science Laboratory here for examination, a police official said.

Worth mentioning, the Commissionerate Police had earlier busted several units involved in manufacturing adulterated edible items, including ghee, in Cuttack city.
