Fake godman from Odisha arrested for raping minor girl

Raipur: Chhattisgarh Police arrested a fake godman from Odisha on charges of raping a minor girl in Bishrampur area.

The accused person has been identified as Buduram Andakari, a resident of Jhatiarpara village under Raighar Block in Nabarangpur district.

The Bishrampur police of Chhattisgarh arrested the accused man last week.

According to reports, Buduram posing himself as a spiritual leader had been treating villagers through an act of exorcising since a long time. Claiming that his body being possessed by Lord Hanuman, he had been cheating people from across the village as well as neighbouring Chhattisgarh.

On September 19, a family from Chhattisgarh had visited the self-styled godman at his village for treatment of their daughter, who was complaining of stomachache. They returned to their home state on the same day after consulting Buduram.

Next day, Buduram telephoned the minor girl’s father and told him that she needs to be attended one more time for exorcism. On September 22, he visited the girl’s residence in Chhattisgarh and started the weird method to cure her. As directed by him, the family confined him along with the girl inside a room. After he left the place, the victim disclosed to her parents about the sexual assault on her by the godman.

Based on a written complaint, a team of Bishrampur police led by IIC Ravi Shankar picked up the accused man from his village and booked him under POCSO Act for the crime.
