Fake recruitment row: SOA students continue agitation, lock main gate

Students of Institute of Technical Education and Research (ITER) under Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA) University in Odisha capital today continued their agitation against the alleged fake recruitment by the varsity locking the main gate of the college.

They will continue the agitation till fulfillment of their demand of guarantee of recruitment, the students said.

Two platoons of police force were deployed at the spot to avoid any untoward incident, reports said.

On the other hand, a case has been registered at the Khandagiri police station against the consultancy firm associated with the campus placement drive on the basis of a complaint lodged by the university registrar.

As many as 50 students of the college have alleged that they got fake job letters for recruitment in many leading companies during the placement drive.

However, the varsity authorities have assured the irate students to place them in suitable companies.

The deemed university has offered compensation to the victims by offering interim alternatives — monthly anticipatory support of Rs 20,000 as teaching assistant in their respective programmes for maximum period of one year or till the students get a job, the entire course fee to be borne by the university for the students who wish to pursue M.Tech degree at ITER in their respective discipline, the university will bear the course fee for the students who wish to join MBA at IBCS in their desired specializations.

The students have been offered to choose any one of the above mentioned options.

The university authorities today set a deadline asking the students to clarify their stand on the offers by May 31.
