The BJP team led by Odisha unit Vice President Samir Mohanty alleged that the false affidavit is a gross violation of Representation of People’s Act.

“Today we met the Chief Electoral Officer and informed him that the affidavit submitted by Kendrapara MLA Kishore Chandra Tarai during 2014 election is incorrect. His name has been mentioned as Lenin Lenka there. However, the signature states it to be Kishore Chandra Tarai,” said Mohanty.

“This is a serious offence and a gross violation of Representation of People’s Act. We have complained against him and have sought disqualification of his membership,” he added.

Meanwhile, Congress Spokesperson Ganeswar Behera called the false affidavit “unfortunate and irresponsible”.

The MLA, in his reaction, yesterday had said that he would consult his lawyer before deciding on future course of action.

It may be mentioned here that Tarai landed in trouble yesterday after it was revealed that the MLA had submitted his 2014 poll affidavit under someone else’s name.

Besides, he was recently in news after Congress leaders accused him of influencing the polls in his wife’s favour and fraudulently withdrawing nominations of rival candidates to ensure an uncontested victory for her.

The BDO was shunted out following the incident and Kishore announced that his wife Babita would resign after poll results are published seeking a fresh mandate.

Besides, he was also accused of submitting false affidavits where his wife’s and father’s name appeared differently in different affidavits as we reported here and here.
