False COVID-19 reports of VSSUT students: 2 firms served show-cause notice

Bhubaneswar:  After COVID-19 test reports of 25 students of  Veer Surendra Sai University Of Technology (VSSUT) were found to be erroneous owing to faulty testing kit, the Odisha Government served a show-cause notice to two suppliers of the medical equipment.

In the notice, Odisha State Medical Corporation Ltd (OSMCL) asked the two firms–New Delhi-based M/s Oscar Medicare Pvt Ltd of and Haryana-based M/s Alpine Biomedicals Pvt Ltd- to show cause as to why action shall not be taken against them for supplying defective/non-standard Rapid Antigen Detection Kits for COVID-19, within three days from issue of the notice.

“The batch of Rapid Antigen Detection Kits for COVID-19 with batch number- CAG-D008 supplied to VIMSAR , Burla is showing false positive results of COVID-19 suspects, which is a matter of serious concern,” the notification reads.

Earlier in the day, Health Secretary Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra said, “Not a single student of VSSUT has tested positive for the virus. The test reports which had come out earlier were false as the antigen kits were faulty. When the same students underwent RT-PCR  test, their reports came negative.”
