FANI: Harrowing experience for residents of Odisha’s Twin City, Puri sans network

Bhubaneswar: Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm FANI has disrupted telecommunication network and internet connectivity in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Puri leaving the residents of the areas to reel under the absence of the services.

Telecom operators are working on a war footing to restore damaged and twisted towers. Consumers of 2-3 operators are now able to communicate in limited areas of the cities while most of the users ran out of batteries in their cell phones due to lack of power supply.

Internet facility was also equally hit as fibre optics were damaged at many places in the areas, for which banking services came to a grinding halt on the day after the cyclone.

Lack of telecommunication services has also affected relief and restoration works. The administration has been relying on VHF sets and satellite phones for being in contact with the district headquarters of affected districts.
