FANI: Odisha ITI students to be deployed for inspection of domestic electricity connection

Bhubaneswar: Expediting the power restoration work in coastal Odisha after Cyclone FANI, the government decided to deploy ITI and trained students for inspection of domestic electricity connection.

The students of ITIs and polytechnics will be sent tomorrow for house-to-house inspection and restoration of domestic power supply in Bhubaneswar and Puri, informed Information & Public Relation (I&PR) Secretary Sanjay Singh.

“In view of the lack of skilled manpower and electricity related issues at houses after the cyclone, we will try to sort it out by sending the teams of ITI and polytechnic students at doorstep for the consumers to check the scattered service wires and electricity connections at houses,” he said.

The initiative was taken during Cyclone Phailin in Berhampur where the trained students had done commendable jobs. The effective step will be taken here too as well as in Puri, he added.

Notably, the power infrastructure was severely affected in several coastal districts including Khordha and Cuttack after Cyclone FANI crossed through Odisha coast on May 3 in Puri. Thousands of electric poles and transformers were uprooted and flattened by the tropical storm.
