Farmer commits suicide over loan burden in Odisha’s Nabarangpur

Nabarangpur, Mar 7:

A farmer died today while undergoing treatment after committing suicide allegedly due to debt burden in Nabarangpur district of Odisha.

The deceased farmer has been identified as Shivaprasad Bhatra (46) of Sanamasi village in the district. He is survived by his wife and four children (2 sons and 2 daughters).

According to reports, Shivaprasad had taken loan from two banks for agricultural purpose.

He was under stress to repay the loan after crop failure and consumed poison on March 3 following which he was admitted to the district headquarters hospital.

However, he took his last breath today while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Police have started investigation into the incident registering an unnatural death case.

Though Nabarangpur Town police station IIC Prabhas Shankar Nayak said Shivaprasad took the extreme step due to family disturbance, his wife Sanadi Bhatra claimed that he committed suicide due to loan burden.
