Farmers threaten to intensify stir from Feb 1 in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The farmers today threatened to intensify their agitation from February 1 if the State government fails to meet their demands ‘price, prestige and pension’ before the deadline.

Hundreds of farmers under the aegis of Navnirman Krishak Sangathan (NKS) marched from Raghunathpur area in Bhubaneswar to meet the Governor Ganeshi Lal today over the issue.

“We will submit a memorandum to the Governor today demanding pension for farmers in Odisha. If the State government will not make clear its stand on farmers’ demands by January 31, we will intensify the agitation from February 1 and the government will be responsible for the law and order situation,” said NKS convener Akshaya Kumar.

The election results in five States indicated that the farmers are united now. The same may repeat in Odisha, he added.
