FCI unit in Odisha’s Talcher to be revived using coal gassification tech

The defunct fertilizer unit of the Fertilizer Corporation of India (FCI) at Talcher in Odisha’s Angul district will be revived very soon using coal gassification technology in the joint sector.

The decision to revive the Talcher fertilizer unit and closed units at Gorakhpur and Barauni  in the joint sector was taken at a monthly review meeting to assess the progress of projects under the department of Fertilizers and Chemicals held here yesterday.

The meeting which was chaired by the Union minister for Fertilizers and Chemicals Ananth Kumar was attended by the Union minister for Petroleum and Gas Dharmendra Pradhan and top officials from GAIL, FCI, Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers (RCF) and Coal India.

Apart from reviewing the progress of various projects under the ministry, the meeting also set timelines for the completion of the projects.

“We have discussed the revival of Talcher fertilizer unit and the units at Gorakhpur and Barauni and have set timelines for these projects. Gas pipeline projects of Jagdishpur and Haldia by GAIL and supply of gas to Odisha and Jharkhand also figured in the meeting as all these projects are vital for the country. The progress of these projects are satisfactory,” Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan told reporters after the meeting.
