Fearing social stigma, molestation victim commits suicide in Odisha

Jagatsinghpur: A +3 first year girl student of Kujang College in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district allegedly committed suicide fearing social stigma after being molested by a person.

According to reports, one Megha Sahani of the locality had groped and molested the girl on road in an inebriated state while she was on her way to the college on August 24. Acting on a complaint lodged by her family members, Kujang police had arrested the accused.

Shockingly, she was found hanging from a ceiling fan inside her house last evening. Kin of the girl rushed her to Kujang hospital, where doctor declared her dead. Her family members have alleged that she took the extreme step of hanging herself fearing stigmatization after the incident.

The Kujang police have registered a fresh case against the accused after the death of the girl.
