Baripada: In a shocking incident, a female inspector in-charge (IIC) was attacked with a sharp weapon by a theft accused in Bisoi tehsil of Odisha's Mayurbhanj district on Friday evening. While the reason behind the attack is not yet clear, the accused Susant Deo has been detained.
As per reports, Susant had been asked to come to Bisoi police station for interrogation for his alleged involvement in a theft that took place from the local Shiv temple hundi on October 16. He came at around 7 pm and was questioned by IIC Mini Bhoi regarding the theft during which he confessed to the crime and even named other accused.
However, all of a sudden, Susant attacked Bhoi with a sharp blade in an attempt to kill her. While she somehow managed to escape, she suffered injuries in the neck and left hand. Menawhile, police staff present on the station premises got hold of Susant and detained him. Bhoi was rushed to Bisoi hospital where she received preliminary treatment.
A case under relevant sections of the IPC has been registered and investigation is underway. The accused will be produced in court, the IIC informed.
