Fewer COVID tests due to Cyclone Yaas reduce positivity rate in Odisha

Door-to-door survey will be conducted in storm-hit areas after people return to their houses, says State Health Director.

Bhubaneswar: Fewer tests due to Cyclone Yaas reduced positivity rate in Odisha, informed State Health Director Bijay Mohapatra today.

Speaking about sharp single-day decline of COVID cases in the State in the last 24 hours, the top health official said that the COVID testing has declined due to very severe cyclonic storm Yaas.

However, the door-to-door survey will be intensified in areas affected by the Cyclone Yaas.

“People will undergo COVID tests and vaccination drive will resume in cyclone-hit areas after they return from the cyclone shelters. The healthcare services and infrastructure remained unaffected in the districts due to the cyclone,” Mahapatra said.

On rising number of COVID deaths in Odisha, he said that the toll is high, as COVID patients in critical condition are being treated in the ICU for a long time. About 80% ICU beds and 50% ventilators are occupied by patients in the State.

Today, the State registered 6,736 fresh COVID cases in last 24 hours, a sharp drop by 4,887 against the cases reported on May 26.
