Odisha to give Rs 50 lakh assistance to kin of Sarpanchs who lose lives fighting COVID-19

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government today announced families of Sarpanchs of gram panchayats will get Rs 50 lakh each if the concerned person dies of COVID-19.

In a tweet, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said sarpanchs are front warriors in the battle against COVID-19. They are working at temporary medical campuses (TMCs) and quarantine centres at panchayat level for COVID-19 management. Family of a sarpanch will receive Rs 50 lakh assistance if he/she dies due to an infection from the deadly virus, the Chief Minister added.

This apart, the State government included persons engaged by government or private organizations at TMCs, institutional quarantine centres and COVID-19 hospitals under the Rs 50-lakh assistance scheme.

Earlier, the Odisha government had announced Rs 50 lakh assistance each for families of doctor, health worker and police personnel who lose lives in the fight against COVID-19.
