Fire breaks out at NIT Rourkela

Rourkela: A fire broke out at the Purchase and Works Section of National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela late last night. However, no casualty or injuries was reported in the incident.

Sources said the incident took place at around 2.15 AM yesterday. On receiving information, two fire brigade teams rushed to spot and took two to three hours to douse the flames.

Properties, including furniture and computers worth over Rs 10 lakh along with several important documents were gutted in the fire, said NIT Registrar Santosh Kumar Upadhyay.

On receiving information, police reached the spot and began an investigation into the incident. Meanwhile, NIT Director Animesh Biswas has formed a seven-member team to ascertain the cause behind the mishap. The committee will submit its reports by this evening.
