Fire breaks out in Bhubaneswar-Howrah Jan Shatabdi Express at Cuttack

Cuttack: A fire broke out in the Bhubaneswar-Howrah Jan Shatabdi Express at Cuttack Railway Station in the morning today.

According to reports, the train was enroute to Howrah from Bhubaneswar. The fire erupted beneath a coach when the train halted on Platform No. 2 at the Cuttack Railway Station at around 6.35 am on Thursday.

Taking prompt action, the firefighters and RPF personnel deboarded all the passengers from the train and brought the flame under control before it spread to other coaches.

After 30 minutes, the passengers were asked to go inside their coaches. The train service resumed after technical examination by the Railway engineers.

The East Coast Railway (ECoR) clarified that the incident occured due to brake-binding.

“Due to Brake-binding (brake not released from wheel), 12074 Bhubaneswar-Howrah Jan Shatabdi Express detained at Cuttack Railway Station from 6:30 hrs. After releasing the brake from the wheel, the train departed from Cuttack at about 7:15hrs.
The cause of non-release of brake being investigated. There is no fire inside the coach,” the ECoR stated.
