At least five coaches of Nandankanan Express, Tirupati Express and Puri Express today caught fire at about 4:30 in the evening at Odisha’ Puri railway station.
The fire started with Nandankanan Express and later spread to Tirupati Express and then to Puri Express. No passengers were onboard at the time of the accident.
While the exact reason for the mishap is unknown, it is suspected to be a handiwork of mischievous elements. One person has been detained for allegedly causing the fire. Railway Police Force (RPF) personnel are questioning him.
No one has been hurt in the incident; however, the coaches have been charred. Six fire extinguishing vehicles of the fire brigade have been pressed into service to contain the fire.
"Train services to and from the Pilgrim Town has been temporarily suspended. East Coast Railway (ECoR) has ordered a high level probe into the incident," said CPRO of ECoR Jyoti Prakash Mishra.
As per latest reports at 6:45 in the evening, the fire has been put out completely.
