Rayagada: A massive fire killed an employee of a poultry farm and 200 chickens late on Sunday night here in the district.
Another employee of the poultry farm also sustained injuries in the fire mishap.
The deceased was identified as Gokul Chandra Dora, working as the supervisor of the poultry farm located at Chandragiri village in Rayagada district.
The injured person was identified as Bhagirathi Parichha.
According to reports, the fire broke out at around 1.30 am at the farm while two employees were sleeping. The fire engulfed the entire poultry farm killing Dora and as many as 200 chickens at night.
Parichha was grievously injured in the fire. He was admitted to the Rayagada District Headquarters Hospital in critical condition. Later, he was shifted to the MKCG Medical College & Hospital in Berhampur for treatment.
After getting information, the fire tender personnel rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control.
However, the exact reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained.
