Firecrackers worth more than Rs 20 Lakh seized in Odisha’s Balasore, 2 detained

Jaleswar: A police team seized firecrackers worth a total of over Rs 20 lakh following raids conducted on three illegal manufacturing units in Salikotha village of Aruha panchayat under Jaleswar police limits in Balasore district, today forenoon at around 10.30 am.

Police have detained two persons in this connection and launched a detailed probe after the seizure.

According to Balasore SP Sagarika Nath, the police team led by Jaleswar IIC Ranjan Kumar Sethi raided the illegal units leading to the huge cache of seizure and detention of at least two manufacturing unit owners.

Separate teams of a total of 25 police personnel carried out simultaneous raids at three different locations in Salikotha village. The detained are Prafulla Behera and Bulia Khatua from the district.

“The value of the seized firecrackers would be more than Rs 20 lakh in the open market,” a cop said.

Notably, raw gunpowder weighing around 5 Kg was seized by the police team from the illegal manufacturing unit owned by Bulia Khatua during the surprise raid in Salikotha village.
